Chevy Camaro Faces Perfect Storm Hindering Production.
Chevy camaro production plant. General Motors has announced that it will idle production of the 2021 Chevy Camaro at its Lansing Grand River Assembly plant starting today. News of the silicone chip shortage and its effect on automobile production is anything but new but the issues that face production of the current sixth-generation Camaro go much further than microchips and are both short- and long-term in nature. The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet classified as a pony car and also as a muscle car with some versions.
Chevy Camaros for the US market were produced in the US until 1992 when production moved to Quebec Canada. The 2022 Camaro already went into production a month ago on August 17. The goal is to later make up as much lost production as possible at this plant.
The plant located in Lansing Michigan about 90 miles west of Detroit produces the Chevrolet Camaro the Cadillac CT4 and the Cadillac CT5. The Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant also manufactures other GM products such as the Cadillac CT5. Lansing Grand River Assembly will begin producing the Chevrolet Camaro Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 again starting May 3 after 49 days.
Full production of the Chevy Camaro Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5 will now come back online at Lansing Grand River on Monday October 4 th. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird produced by Chevys sister division Pontiac also. It was closed on March 15.
By Andy Bolig June 04 2021. General Motors Lansing Grand River Assembly plant finally opened back up on May 3 after being offline for a staggering 49 days. It doesnt appear that this reopening has gone well for GM however.
